Moonlighting Studio
Third project running where we picked the family first and fought the weights afterwards. Doing it the other way round now: decide what the interface needs to say loudly and quietly, then find a family that can do both. Shortlists get much shorter.
Moved the shared stylesheets and fonts onto their own subdomain last spring. It seemed like overkill for a studio our size. It was not — cache behaviour across client sites is far easier to reason about when the assets have one address.
We were writing forty-page guidelines. Now we write four pages and record a short screen capture. Read rates went from roughly nobody to roughly everybody, and the questions we get afterwards are better ones.
A client asked why our own pages have no animation. Because the site is read on trains and in waiting rooms, mostly on old phones, and every kilobyte is a decision somebody else pays for.
